Shipston-on-Stour and District
Shipston-on-Stour is set in the beautiful rolling South Warwickshire countryside with members located in Kineton, Tysoe, Ratley, Sibford Ferris, Oxhill, Warmington, Brailes Burmington, Long Compton, Little Compton, Armscote, Stretton-on-Fosse, and Shipston-on-Stour.
We are going into this season with 21 members ranging from very experienced beekeepers to beginners, and we give assistance and support to help new beginners. For your first apiary meetings we can provide veils and gloves for you to wear and assist in obtaining your first colonies and equipment to set up your apiary.
Through our affiliation to Warwickshire Beekeepers (WBKA) your subscription covers public liability insurance and our committee members are updated on bee health, legislation and spray liaison. Lectures are regularly held by the WBKA, also by neighbouring branches as well as ourselves.
We have events throughout the year, meeting monthly, with the exception of December and January. Our AGM is in February and this is followed by speaker meetings in March and April. Our apiary meetings take place in May, June, July, and September and in August we have a stand at our local Brailes Show. In October and November we enjoy a social supper meeting with a speaker and finally play Stratford Beekeepers at skittles at the Lygon Arms at Chipping Campden. All our events are well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by our beekeepers and their families.
We are a friendly, happy and supportive group and enjoy each others company at all our meetings – and we love our bees!
